Bolivia - Water Privatization In Alto La Paz.
This case, filed by the "Federation of Neighborhoods Boards" (FEJUVE) of El Alto La Paz City, Bolivia, deals with the privatization of water for human consumption by the Aguas del Illimani enterprise, subsidiary of the French "Suez Lyonnaise des Eaux".
According to the opposing parties, after seven years of water concession granted by the Bolivian authorities, the government decided to revoke the contract with the enterprise for complying neither with the construction projects, nor with the investment established in the contract, as well as for considerably increasing the rates of water supply and sanitation. All this led to deprive a population of 208 000 people from drinking water and sanitation services, according to the allegations.
The enterprise intends to sue the Bolivian government before the CIALIS for not enforcing the contract, the denouncers say.

Perú - Perú - Open Pit Mining In Cajamarca
Rural communities from Huambocancha baja and Yanacanchilla Alta in Cajamarca, filed a case before the Tribunal regarding the largest open pit gold mine in Latin America, located 20 kilometers north of Cajamarca City.
Along with the environmental impacts that these communities hold the mining activity responsible for, they also express their concern for the mine developer's willingness to expand to mount "Quilish", where the groundwater that supplies Cajamarca springs. This city has an estimated population of one hundred thousand inhabitants.

Brazil - Environmental Damages To Carapicuiba Lagoon. State Of Sao Paulo, Brazil
Denunciation filed by the " Defensoria das aguas " in Brazil. This entity claims that the use of contaminated soil with heavy metals for the partial land filling of the Carapicuiba lagoon, State of Sao Paulo, poses a serious health threat to surrounding populations.

Chile - Environmental Damages To The “Santuario De Rio Cruces” Wetland In Valdivia
The Civil Movement known as "Action for the Swans" claims the existence of an ecological disaster occurred in The "Rio Cruces Sanctuary" a wetland located in Valdivia, Chile .The denouncers claim that the waste waters discharged from a paper factory plant (CELCO) have provoked the massive death of swans.
After the incident and in spite of the complaints made by the opposing parties before governmental authorities, and the technical reports on the aforementioned incident, the denouncers state that the paper factory plant continues to operate without the proper environmental safeguards.

Ecuador - Human Rights Violations As A Result Of A Hydroelectric Dam Construction
COORDENAGUA and FIAN Internacional have filed a case that seeks to demonstrate the violation of human rights as a result of the construction and operation of the Multi-purpose dam project "Jaime Roldos Aguilera" and for the eventual construction of the project"Quevedo-Vinces" located within the Guayas river basin.

México - Hydroelectric Power Project (“La Parota”), State Of Guerrero
Case filed by the local authorities council and opposing communities to the dam "La Parota" against the construction of a purported hydroelectric power project in Papagayo river, State of Guerrero.
The opposing parties claim that the project implies to flood 17,300 hectares, with a 192-meter high dam. According to them, this would affect 25 thousand farmers in 5 districts of the State of Guerrero: Acapulco, San Marcos, Juan R: Escudero, Tecoanapa and Chilpancingo.

México - Oil Spill In Coatzacoalcos Beach, Mangrove And River, State Of Veracruz
Case filed by The Mexican Center of Environmental Rights and inhabitants from Coatzacoalcos. According to them, this case depicts the frequency with which oil industry's incidents occur in the southeastern states of Veracruz and Tabasco. The opposing parties hold the state owned oil company PEMEX (Petroleos Mexicanos) responsible for:
- Causing severe social and environmental damages to nearly fifteen thousand inhabitants in the town of Nanchital, 120 kilometers downstream from the oil spill.
- Causing the oil spill of approximately five thousand barrels as a result if an oilduct break, polluting the river margin of Coatzacoalcos River as well as seven kilometers of beachfront in Coatzacoalcos and Congregacion Allende.
- The late response of PEMEX's personnel to deal with the emergency.

México - Marine And Coastal Contamination In Zihuatanejo Bay, Due To Gray Water Contamination From The City Of Zihuatanejo And From A Large-Scale Tourist Complex, State Of Guerrero
The opposing parties, The Pro-Juarez Human Rights Center (PRODH), local entrepreneurs and fishermen, claim that the severe contamination that Zihuatanejo Bay undergoes, is due to the negligence of the state and federal authorities for not having a preventive and mitigation strategy to deal with the increasing contamination, as a result of the growing tourist and urban development.
According to them, the development of the Tourist Complex "Puerto Mio" has contributed to the bay's increasing contamination and it has been approved against the existing norms, causing fuel spill and solid waste contamination from the wharf and pier built in the coastal area. The opposing parties also point out that the pier has caused the organic wastewater drained from the Zihuatanejo City's sewage to build up in the bay.

México - Industrial Wastewater Contamination Of Atoyac River. State Of Tlaxcala
Case filed by Centro Fray Julian Garces, la Coordinadora por un Atoyac con Vida y por Atoyac- Zahuapan y Calidad de Vida S.C., for the alleged cancer related illnesses occurrence and other diseases related to industrial waste contamination in Atoyac River. The opposing parties state that the textile factories have contaminated the water wells for human consumption, and therefore, have exposed the working and local populations to severe health threats.

México - Environmental Deterioration Of The Lerma-Chapala-Santiago Basin
The Social Movement of Populations affected by Dams and for the Defense of Rivers (MAPDER- Jalisco-Nayarit) has filed a case against the environmental damages the largest and most populated river basin in Mexico undergoes. The opposing parties mention the following damages:
- Lake Chapala's water body reduction: this results from the high extraction rate this lake's waters are exposed to and because of the waste discharged in it.
- Uncontrolled industrial and domestic waste, particularly from the main urban and industrial centers, such as Guadalajara City. This has increased the Lerma river basin deterioration.
- Uncontrolled fertilizer and pesticide contamination.
- Hydroelectric Projects development, causing land expropriations.

México - The Cutzamala Water Deviation Project In The Mexico’S Valley Basin
The NGO ECOMUNIDADES and the mazahuas communities regard this water deviation project as a large-scale water expropriation, the largest in Mexico, destined to keep the high consumption and waste in Mexico City. According to the opposing parties, this and other water deviation projects cause water scarcity in surrounding populations located in Mexico's Valley basin.

Panamá - Radioactive Material Transportation Through The Panama Canal
The civil society movement for the environment (ISCA in Spanish) states that the Panama Canal has been used as the route for the transportation of reprocessed nuclear material from Europe to be reused as fuel in Japan. The opposing parties intend to demonstrate that an eventual incident related to this transportation implies a serious threat to the Central American isthmus.

Guatemala, El Salvador, Honduras, Nicaragua, Costa Rica - Open Pit Mining Industry Expansion In Central America
Rural communities from the aforementioned countries have experienced, over the last few years, the consequences of the new open pit mining endeavors in Central America. The opposing parties have brought together a regional case, with which they'll try to demonstrate the harmful consequences to the environment that this new expansion policy from the mining industry may have.
