Since 2005 the Central American Water Tribunal extended the jurisdiction and began to address issues throughout Latin America.
For the hearing held in Mexico City in 2006, the Latin American Water Tribunal disputes handled 6 Mexican and one case each of the following countries: Peru, Chile, Ecuador, Bolivia, Brazil.
Also, there were two cases in Central America: one set related to the expansion of open pit mining, in this case participated Nicaragua, Honduras and Guatemala, and the transport of nuclear material by the Panama Canal. The activity was developed in parallel to the IV World Water Forum and occupied the attention of the international press, due also to the severity of many of the controversies addressed.
