 EL SALVADOR - Serious risk on the San Salvador’s aquifer for the construction of an urban/commercial complex in El Espino farm.
The Comite "pro Defensa de la Finca El Espino" denounced the imminent construction of an urban/commercial complex, settled on El Espino farm.
According to the opposing parties, El Espino farm is located on a critical water replenishment area of the San Salvador aquifer; hence, they deem this project poses a serious peril for the present and future drinking water supply of the San Salvador Metropolitan Area’s population.

 EL SALVADOR -Hazard on the Lempa river’s water sources, as a result of the “El Cimarron” hydroelectric project’s construction
The Fundacion Rio Lempa along with the Comite Ambiental de Chalatenango, filed a complaint against the imminent construction and operation of "El Cimarron" Hydroelectric Power Project on the Lempa River, located in the Chalatenango Department.
The opposing parties claim that such project poses a serious environmental and health threat for thousands of inhabitants, with further negative repercussions on the already deteriorated Lempa river basin.

 NICARAGUA -Environmental Deterioration of the San Juan River Basin
Nicaragua’s Fundacion del Rio, along with Costa Rican NGOs, AECCO and Frente de Oposicion a la Mineria de Oro a Cielo Abierto from Costa Rica’s North region, filed a complaint against the Governments of Nicaragua and Costa Rica for the severe deterioration the San Juan river basin undergoes. The opposing parties claim that both countries’ governments have not taken the necessary measures for the resources’ preservation of Central America’s largest river basin.

 NICARAGUA -Caso Empresa HEMCONIC S.A.: Municipio de Bonanza, Región Autónoma del Atlántico. República de Nicaragua
The Centro Alexander Von Humboldt denounced the mining contamination from cyanide leaching and heavy metal pollutants in important rivers in the Northern Autonomous Atlantic Region of Nicaragua, more specifically in the Bonanza District.
The plaintiffs claim the inhabitants’ livelihood and the region’s future water resources will be severely decimated if this situation goes on.

 HONDURAS -Contamination of “La Orejona” brook from the disposal of hazardous industrial waste
The Frente Ecologico Hondureño filed a complaint for the contamination of “La Orejona” brook in Tegucigalpa resulting from the disposal of hazardous chemical pollutants.
According to the opposing parties, this contamination is attributed to the Quimicas Magna S.A company, which has operated in Tegucigalpa for longer than 40 years.

 GUATEMALA –Environmental damages inflicted on the Biotopo Laguna del Tigre’s protected area by oil exploitation activities
The Colectivo Madre Selva reported the deforestation and pollution the Laguna del Tigre National Park undergoes in El Peten, Guatemala, due to oil industrial operations.
The opposing parties stated that the oil exploitation concession has already spread to more than 50% of the protected area’s total surface, since 1992. Such a situation poses a serious threat to the survival of Latin America’s second largest wetland.
