In September 2008 the Latin American Water Tribunal held a Public Hearing Judging controversies focus on treating water that damaged or water may affect the lands and territories of indigenous peoples in Latin America.
The activity was held in Antigua Guatemala and handled 10 cases related to harmful impacts to water systems, breaches the human right to water and problems of governance of this resource on indigenous lands and territories of Mexico, Guatemala, El Salvador, Panama and Brazil. Likewise, this Court allowed us to other situations of violations to water systems in indigenous lands and territories of Guatemala.
The forum "ecological security, climate change and water sovereignty on the lands and territories of indigenous peoples" sought to follow up on those issues raised at the hearing in 2008, in addition to analyzing the phenomenon of climate change and ecological security.
